Any idea what the "ARS" suffix indicates? I'm finding HK1012 bearings but not necessarily with the ARS suffix.
Edit: mostly have it figured out - R - Ring with roller set. S - Roll body of stainless steel. Don't know what the "A" is?

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
Was trying to install a head on an R16 engine today only to find that the ARP studs wouldn't fit. Studs that I had used on another engine....
One of the studs wouldn't even fit in the head bolt hole....??
I guess it turns out that the aluminum around the bolt holes collapses somewhat over the years.
Went to my local friendly machine shop and borrowed a couple of reamers. The studs measured at .43386"
Not sure what the stock holes measure, but I reamed them out to ~.464" which seemed to be pretty close to stock as it took out a bunch at the top and bottom of the hole, and next to nothing in the rest of it on most of the holes. A couple of them was a bit of work to push the reamer through the whole thing.
Bolted up fine to the block after.
Apparently ~.030" larger than the bolt/stud is a good place to start.

Finally got the new soft top installed, that I bought through Dean a couple years ago. Dave's Upholstery in Lockport NY. He had never done one, neither had his brother who had been doing this for over 39 years.
Took 11 days. Did great job. Even put in cables and such.

New water pump, thermostat mount, temp senses, thermostat on my 70 SPL with a U20.
I cracked the thermostat mount trying. To remove the defective temp sensor. Thanks to Don at Rising Sun Racing for the quick shipment after the really bad storm there

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
The plan was to go get the state inspection done on my 68 2000 so I could get the title transfer done and order the tags. (Note: It was delivered 2 days ago at 5:00PM.) Thought I best look up what was required for that year for Texas. All normal stuff, but that 68 was the first year for emissions, so the smog pump had to be working and the belt in good shape. I pop the hood...no belt. Maybe Arizona didn't have that requirement. And the engine was rebuilt about 100 miles ago. OK, I saw a thread here with an older NAPA part number, looked at the belt that the old number referenced to, and the back up 'string' measurement method showed it wasn't close. Got one that was, back home, pump shows it has equal adjustment both in and out. Loosen lock and pivot bolts... Pump is already hitting the block, so no adjustment closer possible. Back to NAPA, get three more belts of varying length. To house, smallest one too small. Longest one works, though adjustment is all the way out. Not worth trying the middle one. Locked it down and everything turns smoothly when running. Decide to check all the lights, even though the independent inspector said electrical was good to go. Turn signals, check. emergency flashers, check. Head lights and running lights......nothing. Check fuses. All show to be good. Got fed up and came inside to see if I could find which fuse feeds the headlights, but no luck yet. Will go out with my meter and check both sides of the fuses to see if one is bad and the break is just under one end cap.
Any one know if the headlight switch has a weird way of working I haven't figured out yet? I pull it out and I can 'feel' the 2 stops for running lights only, and with headlights. So I'm stuck doing searches on the WWW. Hope your day was a lot better! Jim.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
So after cooling off and eating a snack, I got my volt/ohm meter out. Second fuse down,30 amp, showed to be open. Pull it out, looks perfect to the naked eye. Go out to my wood shop where I keep all the tools from my car stereo installing days and grab a 30 amp fuse. Back to the garage and...lights. So I'm off to get the state inspection done!!!!!

Welcome Jim... I don't think I got an opportunity to welcome you to our site! As you will find, we're always happy to try and help, support, cheer on or commiserate regarding Roadsters
I've had my car for over 37 years. I tell new owners that these cars have history, and personality, and sometimes they need to test new owners to see if they are REALLY committed... do ya really love me? This was one of those days
Let us know how things go, we're here to help! And welcome to the Roadster committed, or maybe those who NEED to be committed (ha, something I know a little about!)

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
Progress this weekend! Less than a year to get underbody, frame, front and rear suspension / brakes painted, replaced, and assembled... Not sure if that was the hard part or the easy part
Ripped out the dash and everything that was remaining in the engine bay. Body work is next, hopefully I'll have her ready by the time the machine shop is done boring the block for my stroker build.

Replaced the stock steering wheel in my 1970 1600 with a nice 14" Momo. I love the feel and the extra space when climbing in and out. Yes, it is a little more work to turn it at low speeds, but the better grip and smaller wheel seem to mitigate the extra work.

Welcome! Looking good. I see you went with the Bilstein shocks... good choice. If you want an easy way to remove the undercoating on the floors (which I recommend given what I see) try dry ice... get a bunch, spread it around and let it sit for a bit, then hit it with a hammer. I hear it shatters off. Be safe with dry ice as it will burn your bare skin.vckstrm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 1:53 pm Progress this weekend!
