CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL INSTALL/ADJUST HELP
Hello,
I'm re-installing all my interior parts. I was NOT the one who disassembled the interior, so I have no personal references to look back on.
Here are my questions:
- What is the correct return spring mounting location [at the pedal and other] for brake & clutch pedal?
- My clutch pedal sits noticeably higher than the brake pedal and I have adjusted the clutch pedal to the max point. The only way I can see to adjust it lower would be if I cut the adjustment shaft shorter [height from spec for reference: clutch 157mm, brake 167mm]
I can post picture if that helps.

Re: CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL INSTALL/ADJUST HELP
I have a 67.5 so it may be different. There are 2 holes with inserts in the bottom of the dash that the springs go into.
Since someone else too the car apart, it may be that someone replaced the operating shaft with something longer in the past. I replaced both my masters with aftermarket units so I am no help there either, except that I still have my old ones for measurements.
Also, there are shims that go between the firewall & masters for alignment & spacing
Peace,
Pat

Re: CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL INSTALL/ADJUST HELP
My clutch master is new from one of our vendors [I can't remember which one].
Are you saying Datsun factory had shims for firewall to master cyl. spacing OR just that shims are a solution in general?
The 2 holes for the springs...I'd love some pictures.

Re: CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL INSTALL/ADJUST HELP
As I recall, many of the clutch masters I have bought (from say, Rock auto) have had a longer push rod that would not adjust low enough vs the original Roadster, so I have swapped them out (easily done IF you have one!). I will take a look at mine and my replacement master I have for the future and repost when I get a chance. Perhaps an option would be to purchase the correct size and pitch dye and add more threads to the rod, then cut it shorter if there are fitment issues... I need to look.

This is great! Thanks. I will check for those holes and also take pictures of my current alignment of pedals.

Here are images of the pedals and also the adjuster bolt of the clutch bottomed out against the pedal preventing any more adjustment.

Yep, you will need to cut that rod. Mine is 2.25 inches from the top of the rubber cap on the master, or 3.25 inches from the fire wall.

Re: CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL INSTALL/ADJUST HELP
Keep in mind that a typical manual clutch pedal pivot ratio is about 7:1
Cutting off a small amount of the rod will have a much bigger effect on pedal travel. Measure your specific pivot ratio and the current clutch pedal height over stock (or whatever height you want it to be). That will tell you about how much needs to be cut off - Alternately, the ‘little at a time’ method also works … it won’t be much.
* Remember to leave the nut on before you start cutting

Cutting a little at a time for sure!

Re: CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL INSTALL/ADJUST HELP
The issue really is that the rod is simply too long to allow him to adjust the pedal height without interference. The throw should be the same, and he has plenty of thread to adjust the pedal to where it should be.

Re: CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL INSTALL/ADJUST HELP
You’re right Greg. As long as he doesn’t leave himself short of thread after the trim he will be fine. For me, I would just try and keep as much of the threaded rod as possible intact.

Re: CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL INSTALL/ADJUST HELP
Yes, doing the math on the pivot ratio is based on pedal length and [pivot to center of pad] vs. location of clutch master pivot in relation to the pivot. The length of the threaded rod would not impact that. However, I want to leave as much length of the rod as possible to ensure the most adjustment before it bottoms out.
I found my old clutch master that was installed in the same vehicle with the same pedal and measured the rod length to the rubber boot. 59.5mm [2.34"]. Much shorter than the replacement.

Just swap them out if the stock ones good, problem solved, no cutting required!
