Fuel and temperature gauge not working

Post by Pierre » Tue Jun 25, 2019 6:00 am

Hello everyone,

I am new to the channel and new to the Datsun roadster adventure.
I have a little question, my fuel and temperature gauge are not working on my 1968 SRL.
The temperature gauge is always down and the fuel gauge rises at maximum as soon I turn the key but never goes down while the fuel gets consumed!
Any idea what it could be? are the related in some way?

Thx

Pierre

You should post what year your car is. The cars use a regulator to control the temp and fuel gauges. On the later cars, it is located on the right side of the steering column and is about 1" long and 3/4" wide (gold cad plated). It has two wires going to it and is attached with one screw. Check to see that the screw is tight. They go bad often. Do a search to get more details.

Read JT68s post above first - sounds like you gas gauge sending unit (under the access cover in the trunk) may be shorted or the wires are shorted. On the temp gauge, the sending unit is screwed into the water outlet. It needs to get ground from the engine block. The gaskets on either side of the outlet elbow mount have metal staples in them to make contact with the block. These staples can relax or be rendered ineffective by corrosion aat the contact point. Ground the body of the sending unit with a wire and see what hou get
