More 1967.5 Internal Reg Alt swap questions

Post by Pl411 »

Hello all,
1st I apologize if this has been answered but I've checked techwiki and forums and have found nothing. Plz help, just bought my 1st Roadster and I'm doing the GM is10 Int Reg swap.
I've removed the Mitsubishi Volt Regulator and I don't know what to do with the remaining wires in the 4 and 5 pin plugs. Here's what I know so far.
Taking from the 5 pin connector the Blk/Wht 12v wire to excite the alt. And that's it :

Question 1.
What do I do with the other 4 wires left out of the 5 pin connector that was on the V/R?

Question 2.
What do i do with the 4 wires out of the 4 pin connector that was on the original Alt?

Thank you in advance

2 of those wires work the regulator pull the contacts down to make the alt charge PULL current thru the brushes
The other w&b pull the contacts off the Alt no charge/brake lite
Just wrap with tape to protect the multi plug , the reg is in the alt & pulls current with the charge wire
I'd install a 100amp fuse link at batt.
You could remove the neg wire that feeds the charge coil heat shrink insulate it and leave it plugged in for the dash lite operation

As Redroadster mentioned, it's highly recommended that you install some kind of protection in the main power line (should be the single wire) in case something grounds. Before my car was rewired with an aftermarket set up, I recall having a 30amp fuse in that line. The only fire I've had in the Roadster was caused by installing an alternator that did not have the insulator at the connection and that wire grounding on the alternator body. My (now very expensive) amp gauge became the fuse. That stranded me on the freeway, and to add insult to injury, as I jumped out of the car to disconnect the battery, a semi-truck drove by and the wind was so strong it pulled the door out of my hand, hyper-extending the door and bending it. Not a good day.

Congrats on the new ride!!
I found this page in the Tech WIKI a good resource:http://www.311s.org/pmwiki-311/pmwiki.p ... mmDensoAlt

Note the diagram doesn't show the fuses mentioned by Greg and Redroadster, but the narrative DOES tell you where they should be placed.

Thank you for the heads up.

Fortunately that was many many moons ago! But thanks!
I did just burn my BMW to the ground though... got an extinguisher? If not, GET ONE!
