Modesto ROC-Polar Bear Run--March 2, 2002

The Modesto Roadster Owners Club held their 15th Annual Polar Bear Run Saturday the 2nd of March. Me, Eric and Eric's brother-in-law Rich decided to attend. I left Rohnert Park around 6 AM and headed over to Napa to meet up with Eric and Rich. It was a bit nippy out but still a nice top down drive. We had coffee at Eric's and headed out for Modesto. Two hours and some odd mintues later we met up with the crowd at the Shell station in Modesto. There were 21 roadsters in attendance with a smattering of other cars i.e. an old Cadillac, a 914 Porche, and older Austin-Healy I believe. I could be wrong on the Healy. From there we headed out and stopped at Robert's Ferry Nut Co. where there is an almond packaging factory. We received a guided tour and got to taste some almonds. From there we cruised up the road a bit and stopped one more time before we began the climb into the foothills of the Sierra. By this time it had started to warm up rather nicely for a California winter day. Our next stop would be Groveland where we had a pot-luck lunch at the towns park. It was nice to sit, relax and talk. A guy who lives in Groveland came up and started asking us some questions. Come to find out he has a 66 with a U20 conversion. He wanted to know if parts were still available. We gave him the low down and turned him on to several web sites that could provide him with the information he was asking for. After an hour and a half we loaded up and continued our trek. We cruised along through the foothills until we reached Coulterville where a scheduled break was in order. Eric and I decided to head back as it was getting close to 3 PM. Calspeed decided to cruise along with us. We said our good byes and thanked Paul the organizer and headed out. It was dark when I left and dark when I got home but what a great day for roadstering. Here are a few pictures I took-enjoy-we all did!
