Hi all-

Is the engine block the same between the SOHC and the DOHC RWD KA24s? Can I change out just the head for it to become the twin-cammer? I was just wondering about the interchangeability of those parts. Probably most (all?) the externals swap back and forth. Except for intake & exhaust, of course.

An ah don't want no turr-bow. I'm one uh them all-moter kinda guys. :smt050

Google is your friend.

Short answer appears to be yes, but you'll have to change manifolds and timing chains. Compression will be around 11:1 unless you change the pistons.

The blocks are different. All the blocks are different even between the FWD and RWD versions of the same motor. In fact, the truck RWD block is different from the 240SX RWD block. I purchased a truck rear sump oil pan to go on my 240SX front sump block. It wouldn't fit. The bolt holes are in different places. It is possible with some machine work to make this work. You will have to use almost all the parts from the DE motor including the oil pump and crank. You will need all the timing covers and gears from the DE motor. THe E and the DE had different distributors and fuel injection. You will need to use all the DE wiring harness and computer so that it will work with the DE distributor. The accessories will require custom mounting brackets.

In my opinion it would be much better to start with a DE. The DE has oil squirters under the pistons and the E does not.

Thanks, Andy. It wasn't what I really wanted to hear, but will probably save me some frustration in the future. Now if I could just find a DE and 5-speed for the "right" price...

I'll even pick up in the western U.S... :D
