7000 RPM Tach Guts

Hey, gang,

I'm looking for suggestions of an aftermarket or JY electronic tach that I can disassemble and install in the stock gauge housing.

A while back this issue came up and the only specific response came from Holger who suggested the following:
"What I find was the Tacho from a Volvo 850 which is available for 7000 rpm and 8000 rpm, both fit very well to the roadster’s scale.
The holes for the scale fit to the Volvo tacho and the needle from a 1968 to roadster fit also to the tacho, for the earlier roadster the hole in the needle is smaller you need to make it bigger or use a later needle."
I tried the Volvo tach, but for some reason, the signal from my Miata engine/ECU will not drive it. I'm guessing the voltages are wrong.

Can anyone else suggest possible candidates?

Jesse.

Talk to John Frampton aka caraddict he can build what ever you need.
Also look into a tach driver from MSD ignitions.

Have you tried the obvious - a Miata tach?

Kevin,

John's work is amazing, but I'm looking to max this out around $30 and a few hours of my time.

Sid,

Yeah, I have a Miata tach jury-rigged in the dash now, but it goes to 11, or rather 8K, so it won't work with the Roadster gauge face.

Thanks,

Jesse.
