Bimburgess,
Mine just pulled right off. The springs aren't super strong or anything. I could just pull one edge out of the adjuster on one shoe and then all the pressure was off the whole thing. Or you can back the adjuster all the way off and it becomes even easier.

they just pull off one side at a time. Make not of how they are mounted - there is a leading edge and a trailing edge.

Late year seats do fit in low windshield cars (66) don't they?
Yes, they fit fine.

Any one know the size of the screws that hold together the plastic steering column cover on a late model?

Anyone have a good source for mostly original looking HW wiper blades? Anyone tried this one?

The part numbers in the wiki seem to all be out of production :/

There is about 1 1/4" play in the steering wheel...and I know how to tighten that up...but before I do, I only have about 3/4 turn to the right before lock up (counted from dead straight)...about 1 1/4 to the left. Is this something I can fairly easily & safely adjust myself ...or should I get the mechanic to deal with it?
If it seems I can do it myself, is there a thread to refer to?
Thanks!

Sounds to me like you have a severely maladjusted steering linkage.
Back off the two steering stop bolts, one on each side, that the steering arm and idler arm stop against.
Eliminate the slop by using the adjuster on the steering box as you have said.
Do this with the front wheels off the ground so you can feel if the steering gets too tight at the two extremes of lock.
Then you need to centre the steering box arm to the dead ahead position: remove and replace the steering wheel to match the box position.
You should now have equal turns lock to lock.
Now adjust the cross rod so that the front wheels point dead ahead: wheel alignment time!
Finally, adjust the stop bolts to prevent any possibility of the tyres rubbing on the suspension parts at full suspension load at each full lock position.
These bolts should also be equal in length.
Anything else I have forgotten :)

OK ... thanks. I'll try this in the next few days and let you know how it turns out.

Check for obvious bending of any steering components as well. Sounds like somebody's had the steering wheel off or botched some major front end work. Do you know if it is been in an accident?

Also, check the U-joint down by the steering box. Mine was worn and was causing the steering wheel slop.
