Right in the middle of the front cross member.
Then I put the jack stands under the sway bar brackets on the chassis.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
ah, thanks. I wasn't sure if that cross member could take the full weight of the front.
Placing the stands under the front sway bar brackets seems like it could deform the bracket and bushing, though I see others have placed them there as well.

Plan on tackling the carbs today....balance, idle and mixture...tech wiki says (Keith's latest write-up) to first check timing. I can't put my hands on my timing light grrrrr .... I have an electronic dizzy on U 20 and car seems to be firing ok...can I skip that step?

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
If you really want to, you can static time the engine by setting the crank timing mark for plug 1 (or 4) to 17 degrees advance by hand (easiest with plugs out) then loosen the dizzy bolt, turn the ignition on, then rotate the distributor until plug one fires, then tighten the dizzy bolt ... you just set the timing. I ASSUME this will work for an EI dizzy, will work for points.
Otherwise I'd skip it.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
Okay smart people. I want to remove the shifter lever arm.
The bottom pin has C clips. The upper pin with the slot seems to be a press fit based on the parts diagram. Which side do you tap it out from? Slotted or other?
Thanks.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
My educated guess tells me it screws in
P/N 56 is pin control arm, P/N 62 is pin retaining

I get it now, didn't notice p/n 62. Tap that out and it slips out. Slot is to align it with pin hole. Thanks.Nissanman wrote:My educated guess tells me it screws in

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
Dumb question, but what are the two small O rings for that are included in the 1500/1600 filter element? The large one is obvious, and i used one of the small ones on the bolt that holds the housing in, but what is the second one for?

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
Hi,
I installed an aftermarket tach cable in my '68 1600. For the gauge end of the cable, I have tightened it like hell by hand, and there is a tiny amount of wiggle in the flanged metal shaft at the end of the cable. I am worried that this small amount of play will cause the cable to vibrate and possibly damage my gauge. Anyone have experience with installing an aftermarket cable?
Thanks!

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
I used an aftermarket for my speedometer (66') and it works great. Tach is the same cable, only shorter. Mine is like this one:

I have not installed an aftermarket cable but if I had your situation I would get a plastic washer to the the slack up.drummerdood wrote:Hi,

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
on side trim:
On the 67-5-70 cars I know that door trim are different side to side. Are the front and rear also different side to side? I believe the front are the same but am not certain on the front or rears.
On the 66-67 cars: is the trim different side to side for all three pieces?
Thanks
