What are used to replace the hoses connecting to the heater core in the engine bay?

Where are people finding these mono-leafs that I see people talking about on the forum?

Depends on the model. On the early cars, there is a correct "step down" hose that has two different diameters to connect the mismatched sizes, this is available from the vendors. In my more frugal days, I got an adaptor and used two hoses with the adaptor for an inexpensive solution. I don't know anything on the high windshield models.

Thanks, the vendors may have some. Not easily found by us "old guys" though

Here is what I used Mike:

Gates 18051. 5/8" on one end, 1/2" on the other. 18" long and bends without kinking. About $9 on amazon prime. OR
Samco Sport RE90-16-13. 90 degree elbow. 5/8" on one end and 1/2" on the other. About $20 on amazon prime.

Hope that helps.

Interesting I checked Dean's site, where I am sure I bought my last one, and he seems to no longer have these listed. So I see your frustration!

So in preperation of finally firing up the roadster, I pulled the pan to see what I actually have enginewise. It is a 3main rather than the 5 main so definitely isnt the original engine. Engine looks to have been freshly rebuilt but in checking the torque on the rods and mains, I discovered something I have never seen before, the rods have small backing nuts screwed against the larger main nuts. They are stamped steel and don't seen to really be doing much. Are they supposed to be there and are they actually needed?

My car had them too when I rebuilt the engine. I put them back in. Definitely the first time I've ever seen anything like it. Mine were installed in the opposite direction though.

Those are called pal nuts. Everything that I have seen as well as what I was told by a competition engine builder is that they are now and for some time have been considered obsolete.

After looking at a few pictures online, it appears that yours might be on backwards. I don't know if that makes any difference or not. A lot of people are saying they aren't needed.
