Does anyone have any tips for installing a timing set on an R16? I can't figure out how to align the dimples/keyways, etc...My Chilton manual isn't very clear about it

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (It's been a long time since I did mine) but when the keyway on the crankshaft is straight up (#1 piston at TDC) the dimples should point straight at each other.
Hope this helps.

I am pretty sure Marky510 is on the right track. I am not so sure the keyway on the crank is pointing up at top dead center. Bring the number one to top dead center to see exactly where the crank gear lies. It has been a year since I last did this but I if I recall correctly the two little dimples should line up with each other on the gears. So once you get the crank at top dead center put the timing chain on the crank and cam shaft gear lining up the dimples and slide it back onto the cam shaft. You may have to slide the crank gear, timing chain and cam gear on as a unit if I recall correctly. The repair manual tends to leave one scratching your head at times.
