DID I DAMAGE IT?

Hey everybody.......I am concerned because I started the engine again to check around in more detail the gauges, any leaks, etc., and I pulled gradually the accelerator cable to see the tach, and when I pulled to raise the RPMs for a moment, the linkage got stuck on the return hose to the tank, and in the 10 seconds that it took me to run there and actually find what was wrong, the engine ran at significantly high RPMs.

i turned it off and restarted it with apparently no difference in "behavior" or noises......but I'm concerned that this might have had damaged anything during the "break-in"????????????? Anything I should be worried about?

Any idea of how the RPMS went. 10 seconds isn't so bad.

Was it full of oil in the crankcase?
How did hot did the water get?
Did you check the oil pressure?

If the RPM did not get crazy high it should be ok.

Just imagine coming off the freeway from 70 to 0 in less than 20 seconds and shutting of the engine. Not good. There needs to be a cool down before shuttin' her off. Otherwise your risking seizing up your engine or burning up the oil to an ugly crud in critical areas...

You did say you turned on the motor after the incident, so I don't think you "should" have anything to worry.

I would check the color of the oil...
Check the condition of the plugs... Who knows you might be running either lean or rich too.

Thats Nothing!!1

One time I was adjusting my valves, and I turned the key just to roatate the cam and the car started and the throttle stuck, and the key came out of the ignition. I was going crazy and Oil was flying all over my garage. I was racing, to disconnect the battery to get the car to stall, my wife came out to the garage and I was black with oil.

What a mess!!

The car was fine though!!

Ok, I feel better now. But as to your questions Minh, the oil pressure gauge reading was still "in the middle". There was oil and since this happened a good minute after I started the engine-for the second time within 15 mins.- I am 100% sure that there was adequate lubrication all around. Now, the plugs actually got BLACK, but I haven't done any timing or idling adjustments yet.....I was checking the gauges to see if they were reading well.
The oil is still crystal clear and as I said earlier, the engine restarted without any hesitation when I tried it a couple of minutes after the tense moment.

Thanks for sharing ideas, and for the story......funny!

Good...

Well if this ever happens to any of you and the key breaks in the ignition...

YANK the distributor wire from the coil... It will shock you, but it will do the trick (unless its a diesel engine). :)
