Post by datsun_sp310 »

Hi there, i am from Adelaide, Australia. I have always owned Datsuns and still own my first car, a datsun 1000 coupe (KB10). I have owned 3 64 1500 3 seaters and this one being my first.
I have now found the Members ride section and all info on my car is now there, http://311s.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9201

Thank you, I sold the yellow one for $8500 which was ok. I bought the red one with the L16 already in it. It looks like a pretty simple change over other than the notch taken out of the cross member for the oil pump, the engine brackets on the motor have also been made and also the gearbox mount. Didn't know there were kits for this conversion, they guy i bought it from did it himself.

Thanks Tim,
I did at one stage have 17's on the car (pictured below) but the only problem was with the front rims being 7" wide fouled on the steering or suspension, can't remember which and stuck out from the guards a little. So now run a 16x6.5 with +40 offset, they clear with only minor adjustments but stick outside the guard just a little but as i have a 1500 the guards don't have the flares on them like the 1600's and 2000's, with these guards they would be perfect.
My new dash i made for the car, fuel guage is now where map light was, Autometer Air/Fuel guage where ashtray was and wide band oxygen sensor, and also running a Turbosmart E-boost controller.
Have raised the bonnet/hood vent about 25mm/1in.
Will be heading down to panel shop during the week to check progress and take a few snaps so will have more pics then.

G'day from Canberra.
I too followed the yelow one on ebay and the other stuff currently on there.
I am also on Ozdat which is where I see you.
I have a ring gear and pinion/LSD for a H190 and thought that the S3 bluebird rear end had all the obvious parts. Did you get the rear shortened? I figured this would give you the disk brakes too (plus integral drum hand brake).
When I visit Adelaide i am usually round Goodwood, from where do you hail?
(I was there last week, wish I could have come round)

Hi Craig,
I live in Pooraka. Yes had it shortened, a place called Rod-Tech here in Adelaide on Hampstead Road. Original hand brake was pretty simple to setup with the built in drum hand brake.
Give us a hollar next time you're over this way.

Bloody Hell! That's a beast!

I have a feeling that Rod Hewitson over there in SA has moulds for fibreglass front guards for the late model roadsters. He shouldn't be too hard to find, but if you're in a pickle I can dig up his details from somewhere around here. He's worth meeting, if you haven't already anyway, because he has one of the most original and well kept 2000 Roadsters in Australia. He once told me that he'd doubled its mileage moving it from Vic to Adelaide!

Next time I'm over there (I might come over to watch Classic Adelaide later this year) it'd be great to meet you.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve,

If you could find Rods details that would be great as i would be interested in some fibreglass guards. I haven't heard of him. I've met very few Roadster enthusiests as i am not a member to any of the clubs, well not yet, as my car has only been on the road for only a few months in the past 6 years. Hope to have it ready for the Bay to Birwood run in September this year, i think it's one of the biggest car runs of its type in the world.
Next time you're over this way for sure, and a great time to come over, for the Classic Adelaide Rally.

Regards Clive.

One of the best things i find about owning a Roadster is educating other people of their existence. The 2 most common responses i get (after telling them it's a Datsun) are either "I didn't know Datsun made a car that old", or "I didn't know Datsun made a convertible", and then closely followed by "I knew someone whos parents/family/friend used to have one of these but that was a long time ago". Although it's an old car, to most it's a new car to them and they want to know all about it, which to me makes it an even more exciting car to own. Like most if not all of us it's a part of us we like to share with all.
