Differences in the SR20DET motors?

Post by MBrannon »

I'm searching for a good drivetrain for my car. I'm old to FI but new to Nissans. I've done some reasearch on this but I would like your input as well. Here are three examples that I have found:

S13 Blacktop - $2200
S13 Redtop - $2000
S14 Blacktop - $2500

These include the longblock, tranny, turbo, ecu, harness, and all attachments etc.

Ultimately I'm looking to put down 300WHP. I know the T25 isn't going to cut it. Do any of these come with the T28? Thanks for your help!

Check with Spriso but S14/S15 come with T28 turbos, not sure if both are ball bearing.
T25 won't be happy past 12psi, T28 will get you closer, but not 300whp, unless you have super tuning/supporting mods.

If you are looking for 300whp the simple way... get an S13, swap the turbo for t3/04 setup and do all the supporting mods:

We have discussed this quite a bit in the engine swap forum, so I would do a search there. And then Google is your friend on this stuff.

Any of the SRs can be built to make 300hp with the right turbo combination. All depends on what your budget is...

The quick question is if your car will be able to put down that power anyway with such a small rear tire size. Moderator Dave has 222hp going to the rear wheels on his turbo swap (S13 SR20DET) and I don't remember what Kevin's customer's car is making, but it is close to that.

If it were me, I would start with a S14 SR20DET (which already has a T28 turbo) and get some 555cc injectors, a Z32 MAF, change the cams, put a high-quality mandrel bent exhaust on the car and see if is exciting enough for you-- my guess is that it will be!

That sounds like a good plan. I'm a boost junkie. It's my drug I suppose. Ran 40+psi and nitrous on the last car. That's why I know the T25 is not going to cut it.

I don't want to go too crazy with this car. I just need to find the will power to stop at a nice reasonable level.

So s14 with a 5 speed sounds good. I'm not a big fan of 6 speeds personally. I know I can search google, but to be honest I've found that most info on the internet is bad info. That's why I appriciate all of your help. Micheal, I know I've told you in your other threads, but your work is beautiful. Thanks for your help and when the time comes I'll be buying all my roadster stuff from you :)

Oh, anyone know the performance difference between redtop and blacktop?
