1/4 mile times?

I know I know, these cars are not drag cars! With that being said, what kind of times are you guys putting down?

I've only run my car at a strip once, and my times were slow, the car was fast, but I was slow. I think I was running in the 16s, but my reaction time is about a second. That was before I did a lot of engine work. Now it will set the same time but roast the current tires a good way down the track. If I had traction, that might be a different story. Do I intend to find out, no probably not.

Well, you've got to take this at what it is. Without a time slip, everything is just a guess. Back in 1980, I had a 69 2000. Had it punched .60 over, balanced, and so on. We used to have "grudge" races out at Bonneville Raceways. High school against high school. I think the best time I posted was high 14's.

Since I run an ultra close gearbox the drag strip is the last place I want to take my car as first gear is roughly equivalent to 3rd in a stock roadster transmission. With the 4:88's my car gets off the line okay and can dig out of a corner pretty well...
From a lap time standpoint, I can lap California Speedway in a respecable time 2.04 and the track is 2.8 miles, averaging 83 miles per hour, and there are plenty of low speed turns.

elapsed time does not include reaction time. You could wait 10secs before tripping the starting line, e.t. it doesn't add into the e.t.

I thought the clock started when the lights went green. All I know is that I suck at it, and I have no interest in becoming better. Not my cup of tea. I'd rather go fast through a corner. I need to do more track days.

R.T. is the time from the green light to the car leaving the starting line.
E.T. is the time from the vehicle leaving the starting line to crossing the finish line.
Since elapsed time does not include reaction time a car with a faster e.t. can actually lose the race if the driver does not react to the green light fast enough. I guess you could say it's the "great equalizer" in bracket racing
So, you're time really was 16.xx seconds, not 15 because of your 1sec r.t.

All right Alvin has a slip! What lane were you in?
Well I know these cars are better in the twisties and I'd catch some flack for asking. I know a lot of people say they fall asleep driving in a straight line. I always thought if that was the case your car is too slow

My last car went 9.2@160. Believe me trapping 160 in the 1/4 is not condusive of sleep!
Anyways, I'm looking to trap 120 with the roadster. That should be fast enough and I think 300WHP should do the trick. Now ET and traction is another story.

I'm the left lane...and I broke out big time!
There was a KA24DE-T 510 at the drags one night. it ran a 12.8@118 mph
For the roadster I think you're right 300whp should net a 120mph trap.
you better get a full cage

and you're proposed method of achieving 300whp???

Na, I'm going with an SR20DET. Gotta keep the MPG up!
Is that time with your SR20?

yup that's with the stock SR...300whp with an SR20DET is cakewalk.
i'd beef up your rear end and get some break upgrades as well!
Kevin Desirello did a beautiful, full bolt-in Ford 8.8 disc brak'd setup to handle his DET build...sounds like you will need one too!

If you are putting 300hp in a roadster, you better be cutting the fenders out so you can run a 275 series tire. With what ever I'm making now, I can't use the power even with an LSD rear end. Sure, doing a smoke show can be fun, but its useless if you are trying to do anything else. As is my car is a bit scary on the street and requires thought before stuffing it into a corner. I wouldn't want to drive a roadster with 300 hp unless it had a LOT of mods to the suspension and body to clear huge tires.
Just my $0.02,

Brake and suspension is a must.
I'm going to try not to mess with the fenders. If I don't get traction at 300HP I'll have to turn the boost down until I do. For the track I'll use slicks. I agree that no traction is pointless.
How much power are you putting down?

before I did a different exhaust, headers and smaller venturis, 141hp at the wheels with 132# ft of torque. That was also on 91 pump gas, with a bad sparkplug wire. Now I have more power, but haven't had it on the dyno in 2 years.
