Out of control loggers? JFK? Vikings? Runestones? SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA has some strange history. Driving trucks, I sure have seen some great drives, museums and historical sites. But when I drove up this hill one day and saw 3 I-beams sticking up out of the ground, I was intrigued.

Upon doing a little research I found it had something to do with JFK creating a national forest out of 2 plots of Oklahoma that were being exploited by renegade logging companies. These clowns made "Strip Mining" look like a great way to mine!

Here's a starter kit to US 259.

Do alot of research before you go. Viking Explorers were here. Runestones? Ancient claims to the land long before recorded history.

Enjoy the trip.

I don't know of to many scenic and slowed down roads about KC
I take a drive down Ward Parkway in KC when I need such
24 hiway E out of KC is a nice long drive near a river with connecting towns
any in Iowa come to mind ? it would be nice to have a Datsun roadster beater for the gravel roads out in Iowa corn country IMO

I am sure we can come up with something. Think we should stay away from the gravel though. Hard on paint and not well suited for spirited sports car driving. I really miss the nice twisty roads we had in Sonoma County. There were multiple ways to get to the coast.
