I have been out on the track with a Ferrari GTO and he went right past me...Great to see a Roadster return the favor!

one of two things, the GTO is about to blow by the Roadster, or the Ferrari has already lapped it.

according to the original title provided by the photographer, he says the roadster is passing the GTO. However, it is always possible that the GTO is having a problem and is going slow on the track. This is noted as the only non restored Ferrari GTO so I suspect it could be one of a number of possibilities.....

By the photo the Roadster looks to be moving faster than the GTO too..it is blurred and the Ferrari is not.

Since the camera is panning with the GTO, the only thing you can say for sure is that the Ferrari and the Datsun are moving at different speeds. Which is faster?? My money is with the GTO, but my heart is with the Roadster.

It is obvious that at the moment the cameras shutter clicked the camera was moving at the same rate of speed as the GTO. The Roadster being blurred can be that it was going faster or that it was going slower and is about to be past. I would like to think the Roadster was going faster, after all, somehow it did end up in front of the GTO

With some panning action, anything can be made to look like its flying. It could be that the roadster got around the GTO, but its unlikely. That said, I have watched some epic battles between 1300cc Alfa Spiders and early Vetts, and this year at the Wine Country Classics, a knock down, drag out war between a 1300cc Alfa spider and a 250 GT SWB Ferrari. The 250 won, but it was on the last lap that he got around the Alfa in a semi risky move. The Alfa finished 2nd hot on the bumper of the 250.

The picture could be the real deal with the roadster passing the GTO, but unless anyone was there to see first hand, we'll never know for sure.

I believe that the Datsun got in the way of a panned shot of the Ferrari. The photographer didn't see the Datsun getting sucked up by the Red Baron.....

I usually dont look in this Forum , but came across this the other day.

The picture was taken at Lime Rock during the 2008 Rolex Vintage Festival . I was at Lime Rock the day of the race. The Datsun is a 64 body with a highly tuned Solex 2000 engine and is owned by Jim Glabicky of Vermont. If memory serves me , Jim told me he was making in excess of 180hp at the rear wheels. The Ferrari is owned and driven by Sandra McNeil and is stock. This was a very very close race. The Ferrari led for the first 11 laps and then the Datsun took the lead for laps 12 & 13, the Ferrari passed the Datsun in lap 14 and ended up wining the race in lap 15.

I will be there again this year and will report back if the two cars do battle.

The Vintage Festival is a 3 day event. Friday and Saturday are practice and qualifing races and the featured races are on Monday. ( No racing at Lime Rock on Sundays ) . I dont know when the photo was taken. It could have been taken on a practice day. In the featured race ( Monday ) the Ferrari won.
