Trimming the Weatherstrip

Post by EScanlon »

I'm hoping to wrap up my 67 1600 after 16 months of "vacuuming the carpet"...

What began as a simple spring cleanup in order to drive it during the summer ended up being a minor on-frame refresh/restore that is now in the last details.

Still working out odds and ends, but without any reference materials many of these have been educated guesses and careful examination of several cars and pictures. However, some items are still elusive to pin point.

So, hoping to get some help either as pictures or descriptions here goes:

The side weatherstrip that goes between the windshield and the vent window frame: Could someone take pictures of both the top and bottom ends please? My original pieces were so badly chewed up it was impossible to tell where and how they ended. As a result, I don't have anything to go by. I know the flap gets glued to the windshield frame, and the way it inserts into the outer lip, it's the angle of the cut at the top of the piece, and the manner of the trim at the bottom where it goes behind the door. It doesn't appear to bend behind the door "gracefully" and it begs to be trimmed.

The other piece is the door weatherstrip it self, the one that the door shuts against. At what level are people trimming these, both at the top of the windshield and the top of the back edge of the door opening? Additionally, the kit I got has these rubber plugs, which I presume are to "close" off the ends of the bulb on the weatherstrip. Don't these get in the way of closing the door? I initially inserted them, without glue, and they promptly "popped" right off.

Any help in describing, or if possible, pictures detailing how to finish these would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Enrique
