Coronado Baby! We are going back to race in September!

Post by RC240z »

Guys and Gals,

For the second year in a row we have been accepted to run with General Racing, at Coronado. So we are gearing up to run at North Island Coronado's airport course once again this year.

I hope a few of you can come out and watch, as this is a great spectator event with lots of great cars, and the opportunity to not only watch some great racing, but walk through the pits and see lots of these great vintage race cars up close. There is a car corral, with the best parking for this event. I hope to see a couple of roadsters in the coral!!

The race weekend is September 26th, 27th and 28th.

Hmmmmm, sounds like a great excuse to visit my nephew. He's stationed on North Island. Of course, he did roll a Toyota 4x4 in high school. :smt003

I have that Alfa on my mind, and all year to figure out how to get around him....I am stoked to get invited again!

This time we will make qualifying and do much better.

Ron,
Are you talking about Anthonys Alfa? If so, I better link the thread from the Alfabb. He's done a ton of work to it to make it ready for the Historics next month. I'm always down to do a little digging to give a roadster the edge for a race 8).

By the way, when is the Datsun/Porsche shootout?

Congratulations,
Will

Hi Will,

No it is not Anthony Rimicci <sp> it was a red Alfa with a yellow nose on it. It runs a 3 digit number with Warsteiner on door. I spoke to the owner and his name is John...

Since I do not have a big race motor in the car it is going to be a challenge. I am hopeful to have my 5:13 set up in time for that course as I could use the extra power out of the corners. We will see...

The Porsce Datsun shootout is in October, in Las Vegas, the weekend of the 17th to the 19th. Are you going to make it out this year?

Ron,
I might be interested in catching a plane to Vegas and working pit or something. I'm not racing that weekend so it might be open.

Was the Alfa #347, drivers name John Breslow? If so I will check it out at the Historics. They have 9 GTAs running and 2 GTZs (TZ-1s)

Hi Will,

That is the car, and that sounds like the guy...John, is a nice guy, and a good racer.

Please take a look at his car. I think I know what makes him fast, and it is his motor. The guy that cares for his car here in San Diego is really tallented and builds great motors for several Alfa's. He also owns the #4 Yellow Ginetta normally driven by Jeff Kline that is blindingly fast.

Ron

We should talk off line regarding Vegas. Drop me a PM and we can talk.

Ron,
Johns Alfa is listed as a 1600. I'm not sure how hes got you on HP unless hes running a hand grenade that's turning 10K and making power between 9500 and 9700 rpm (I don't know really, but its got to be way high strung with a very narrow power band.) I've been reading up on how to build a hot Alfa Nord engine, and a U20 makes more power with a lot less work.

I'll email you about Vegas.

Let me know when you are going to Vegas. I'm only about six hours away. I would love to come out and watch and or lend a hand if needed. Post a note here in the racing section as it draws near. I'll even buy the beer!

We are going to be in Vegas the weekend of the 17th and 18th at LVMS.

Please come out and see our little datsuns go. It is a great opportunity to see a bunch of datsuns go as we have the annual datsun porsche shootout (with a couple of Alfa's thrown in to boot).

Ron,
I checked out that Alfa for you. I can't see anything that really stands out to make it fast. Its got an AutoDelta sliding block rear end, perspex (lexan) windows, and the usual GTA hardware. Its a 1600 as well. It does sit lower in the rear end than all the others, so his rear roll center could be really good. His rear trailing arms are drilled out for weight, but thats all I could see on the car. I didn't get a chance to see him race as they are racing today (the class I really wanted to watch anyway. )

Hi, Ron
It looks like there should be around eight roadsters there from socaldroc on the 27th.
We all should be there around 10am. We already have 8 passes for the car corral.

See You In Coronado
