If anyone is interested, there will be an AutoX school as well as a test and tune on July 19 at Sears Point. It will be held in conjunction with a Trackmasters open track day. Its looking like you will be able to get more runs in than you can stand. If anyone is interested, here is the link

I'm planning on doing it, I might run the Alfa in the morning and the roadster in the afternoon. They are saying bring 2 sets of tires for those of us who run R-compounds. I might use the morning to perfect drifting a roadster and get more serious in the afternoon. It should be fun stuff. Instructors will be there if you want one. You will also have a chance for ride-alongs on the real track.

Its $50 and I think lunch is included. It would be cool to see some more roadsters out there.

Perhaps 4 hours of reaming the street tires will shave them down so they will stick. I guess I can use it as practice for rain races? The street tires stick better in the rain than they do in the dry. Go figure.

Well, the autox school went off without a hitch. I was asked to be an instructor so I got to ride in some cool stuff. The coolest was a Ferrari 308 GTS. I'd never ridden in a Ferrari before. The most amazing ride was in a track preped Lotus Elise. All I can say is holly cow those are amazing cars. Seriously stupid fast. We ended up ditching the drill stations for the afternoon session and put together the full course. I got about 35 runs (or more, wasn't counting.) At one point the Lotus and I had the full course to ourselves and were were trying to catch each other. We would finish the course, roll to the start and get the green flag as we did so, so it was a flying start in 2nd gear. He was on full track tires, and my V710 autox tires got a little hot by the end of the session. It was fantastic fun however.

What was learned was interesting however. The street tires were like running race slicks in rain (I think I scared several students with them.) but it did hook up a little better than before. I also discovered that I was bottoming on the bumpstop on the driverside in the rear. I will be trimming those this week. The traction bars did make the car better. Still a little squirly but better. I had a few really good drifts through corners. I also didn't seem to have as much (if any) tire rub. It could be that I have shaved the sidewalls down enough that they don't rub anymore. Since I decided to swap my 40 mm venturis in I messed with the jetting. I think I need to go back to what I had before. It seemed to be running a bit rich.

I have some in car video that I shot with my digital camera. After I get it edited, I'll post it. I have a good spin, and a good save (the car rotated beyond 90 degrees and I saved it without hitting a cone or blowing my braking zone.)

Oh yeah, I got to run for free since I was instructing.
