New SPL311 owner! I'm really excited!

Post by Tomakze »

I recently purchased a '68 SPL311 in running, driving (ready for resto) working order! I have wanted one for a few years now, and just decided it was time to get one, no matter what. one month later, i drove 150 miles one way to get one, and here is what i ended up with! (yes I drove her back, with no top, in the rain!)

I know it has '70 turn signals, but my title states it is a '68. I assume the turn signals are from a junkyard.

This is my other Nissan product, a '85 Nissan 300zx Turbo

Welcome to the wacky world of Roadsters! That quote means that you should fit in just nicely!!

Looks like the front fenders got swapped. Check for hidden damage. The car looks pretty good!

Now for my nickel's worth of free advice... You commented that it was ready for resto - DON'T DO IT YET!! Drive the car for at least the summer. Fix the safety issues and just drive it. You will find that your initial desires will not be the same at the end of the year. Get to know what you like and what you want to change. See as many Roadsters as you can - in person and in photos - before you set your mind on something. Just don't immediately start yanking it apart - most don't go back together nearly as fast...

"....ready for resto..." is obvious. Transplant the VG30 from the ZX into the Roadster!

Welcome to the Looney Bin. Ummm, you -DO- know you can't have just one, right?

I just bought a '69 2000 with no engine, trans, vin #, or interior, but its perfect as far as the body goes... so yes, i know i cant have just one, lol. I've had one for a week, and already got another, lol! (i got it for $100 including delivery to my house!!!)

I will restore the other body/frame/susp/etc while i drive my 1600. later, i will do a transplant. I'm kicking the idea around about swapping in a KA24DE. We will see...

I have already greased all 20 something serts, installed a new breather, new shocks all around, adjusted the throttle cable, etc. I cant stop touching this thing, its to much fun! even though its not the prettiest, it drives GREAT! the steering has a small amount of play in it, but other than that, its wonderful!

I'll keep you all updated, thanks for the comments, keep them coming!!! :)

Now THAT is a plan! I didn't want to come across as too heavy handed, I just want to help you try to enjoy the cars. They aren't as much fun in pieces as they are cruising through the countryside...
