anyone know if E. Camino Cielo is paved from 154 to Solvang?
If I remember correctly, I have drove it in the past....5 years ago.
E. Camino Cielo has some great views to the ocean.
I will be leaving San Diego at 0' dark thirty Friday and will meet up with anyone in LA that wants to try this route or just want to get a early start.
I want to be in Santa Barbara by 11 as google thinks it should take 4hour 42 minutes to get to Solvang via E. Camino Cielo

I would consider going if I was not towing a roadster, but with truck and trailer I suspect it would be no fun....

It looks like W. Camino Cielo is NOT paved all the way from 154 to Solvang.
I an considering coming in from the north via 166. Anyone know if Cerro Noroeste Rd is better than Lockwood Valley Rd?
Any suggestions?

I just spoke with a client of mine that services, drives and races Porsches. He told me about a route to Solvang from So Cal that he said is a great drive (some nice twisties) and is very scenic. He said roadsters tend to perform well on this route.
It basically involves the 118 fwy west to the 23-take this over the hill north toward Fillmore but then take a side road to Santa Paula. He then goes through Ojai, around Lake Casitas and then back to the 101. He then picks up the 154 after Santa Barbara and hits Solvang from the east side. Below is the mapquest map for the Fillmore area. This does not plot the exact route above but shows the area.
Would anyone be interested in taking this?

Cerro Noreste is preferred

Phil,
Cerro Noreste is preferred. Lockwood Valley was a part of the recent Iron Bottom, and as I remember it was not notable.
Cerro Noreste is on one of Victors 2007 Iron Bottom Youtube videos, by the way.
Drive safe, beautiful country back there, but gets dusty when ya get off-track.....

Fergus,
Thanks for the reply.....BTW - I don't drive that fast anymore....LOL......
There was a time when I could keep up with Victor...or was it he could keep up with me.....Oh yea...that was when I had solexes and he had SU's I will drive safely and enjoy the view. If it get windy...things can change.
Todd,
I have taken that route "It basically involves the 118 fwy west to the 23-take this over the hill north toward Fillmore but then take a side road to Santa Paula. He then goes through Ojai, around Lake Casitas and then back to the 101." maybe not his exact route, but using many back roads though Ojai and around the lake.......Very nice.....
I would add driving up the hill to E. Camino Cielo then to 154 .....The view is incredible.....
Check out this link to Gibralter then E. Camino Cielo.

Speaking for myself here, I would like to leave home (Tarzana) around 11:00 on Friday. That would probably put me in Santa Paula between 12:00-12:15.
Tarzana is right near Woodland Hills, in the southwest part of the San Fernando Valley. If anyone plans on rolling through this area (Basically the 101 near the Tampa, Winnetka, or De Soto offramps anywhere near that time, let me know and I'll find a meeting place.
I think what I will do is take the 101 north to the 23 freeway (north) and then take the route referenced above. If anyone is interested you can respond here or email me at

Anyone meeting at the Woodlake Bowl in Woodland Hills on Sat able to give me a ride to Solvang?
I am waiting for a part for my other car and can't drive up if it doesn't arrive. Would prefer someone returning on Sat nite as well.
One day I'll hope to take the Roadster, but not this year.
Thanks,
Linda
