One side is bright and the other side is dim.
If I replace the the dim one with a new headlight,
would that fix it? thanks for your advice.

Sounds more like a poor ground on one side. You can verify the bulbs by swapping right to left and vice versa. If the dim follows the swap, bad bulb. If the dim stays the same, check voltage at the plug and/or make sure the ground wire is getting a good connection to the chassis.

Again, my vote goes to bad ground.
