White Walls

I am going for a kind of original look for my 1970 roadster and would like to find some relatively inexpensive streetable radials with a white wall. I plan to use original wheels and hubcaps. Any suggestions? I am trying to avoid the really expensive ones I saw advertised in Hemmings.

Thanks,
GG

This may sound stupid but I bought a set of whitewall rings off the internet for $49. They fit under the rim lip when you have your tires mounted or remounted. At first I didn't like them because they wouldn't stay down in spots but after a few warm days and fast driving they became tame to the tire;-)

I got my White Wall Radials from Discount Tire. They look great and drive good.

Thanks for the tips! The whitewall flaps take me back to my first car, a 1948 Chevrolet that was free. After paint and some whitewall flaps on the retread tires it was a chick magnet of sorts. At least it was in the late 70's in a small town in Washington when I was young and weighed less!

For a 1970 roadster, they had the thin white walls . Really no need for porta-walls. The right size to pickup is 175.70r14. Many shops still have this side with a thin white wall..

At 15 seconds into this YouTube video, there's a brief shot of an original TOYO tire. It's bias ply, but at least you can get a sense of how wide the whitewall is supposed to be. Original tire with the 1969 1600 pictured.

Here's a photo comparison of three tires...Left to Right
195/60 R14 Falken Azenis RT215 on Etoile 14"x6" alloy, 175/70R14 Hankook Mileagemaker whitewall on OEM steel wheel, original 5.60-14 Toyo bias ply whitewall on OEM wheel.

Wow that NOS wheel/spare is in really nice shape.

Mine has been beat around by the lug wrench and various stuff stored under the spare cover.

But I still have the original air from Japan in the tire. (Hint:Smells like sushi, I let just a little bit out to check.)
