Locked down editing and deleting of posts

Well, some of you have quickly figured out you can no longer edit or delete your own posts on the heavily used discussion threads. It is not broken as I have implemented this because we have had way too many deletions and edits. These deleted/edited posts really screw up the flow of the thread making many of them useless. I am not accusing anyone of anything just stating the facts. So think carefully before you type. Any one of the three moderators can edit posts. You are posting to a public forum and I do not have to delete posts if you decide to leave. I am just trying to keep some continuity here as we have quite a few members posting these days. There is no easy way to cleanup after a bunch of deletions. I hope you all understand where I am coming from-so think before you type. Better yet-follow datunbucky and take some time to think about what was said before shooting from the hip. Thanks.

This seems to be a wee bit heavy handed.
My example: -
I wanted to change the image I had linked to my Post.
I couldn't do that, I had to post a new REPLY with the new image to the thread.
Is it possible to have an ADD feature whereby the author can ADD additional info. but not DELETE the original content?
At least that will contain the info. all in the one post, not have it spread over possibly several posts, the latter making the correction of an inadvertent error hard to track due to lack of continuity.

Alternatively, a set time period for the EDIT of a Post, after which, NO GO.

I understand you don't want info. in the thread just disappearing, that really is a pain.
But if the info. turns out to be wrong, why not give the author the ability to say so/correct it, in the same Post?

Just a suggestion, no need to get miffed :)

EDIT:
After saying all that I notice that I had an EDIT button on my post!!!!!!

From the administrative side of the forum it is not heavy handed at all. I only did this to the heavily used discussion threads not the entire forum as you found out. Asking to have something edited should not be a big deal and will usually get taken care of right away. I wish phpbb had a little more control over when threads lost their editing ability but it is was it is. Some higher priced forum software has a global setting where you can set a time limit on losing the edit ability. I am on a budget and use as much of the open source software as I can.

I understand the "No Delete" however I think it would be nice of we could edit within a certian time frame.

For example, when you post a message (reply) and you have five minutes to edit it before you loss that option.

....and a auto-correct spellchecker.

I have given registered users back the ability to edit your own posts. I apologize for the inconvenience but felt it was necessary at the time I did it. Edit away!!!
