Did all 1600s have the Datsun Hood Emblem

Post by drewnamis »

My cousin, who was the original owner of a 67.5 claimed that his never had the datsun on the hood. Was this the case, or is his senility catching up to him? (He's 40 years my senior or so)

Look on the backside of the front part of the hood.

If all they did was fill the holes with Bondo, you'll see the tell-tale worms of bondo sticking out the back. If on the other hand they did a good job of welding them, they would have had to grind that part smooth to hide the welding fill.

But to answer your question, and I'm not sure that this is definitive, look at the following link. It does show the 67.5 2000 as having the D-A-T-S-U-N spelled out on the front, but unfortunately, the 1600 does not show up in pictures except for the 1965 picture.

BOTH the 67.5 1600s that have been in my life had the D-A-T-S-U-N on the front of the hood. I can't see the factory stamping out hoods and not punching the holes in each and every one. I think your cousin is just having a "senior moment". :D
