I need to ship my (non-running) car from one spot im PA to another spot - 170 miles / 3 hour drive. What should I expect to pay? Any alternate shipping suggestions?

If you have a suitably equipped tow vehicle, rent a tow dolly from U-Haul ($35 per day here in Jacksonville) and do it yourself. Pick the dolly up in the AM, drop it off in the PM - that is the cheapest method.

As far as having it done, just check around - try contacting Craig Halsted - he may be open for hire to do it...

That's what I did.

Borrowed a freind's Car-Dolly and hitched to another friend's borrwed truck.

I hauled 400 miles. 900 miles all together. Took me from 6AM to 6PM.

A Car-Dolly is the cheapest way to go. You might want to get a one moving permit fromt he DMV too if it not already registered.

Or you can you a flat bed trailer no moving permit required here isn California since the Roadster never toched the pavement. Check with your DMV though.

California has such weird rules. I have towed cars from Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee and never had to get one of those permits. The folks over here understand what is going on...

If you can do it, borrow a flat bed trailer - either a utility trailer or a car hauler - they are vastly superior. I have towed one as far south as Boca Raton, Florida and as far north as Potomac, Maryland and that is definately the way to go....

I was told that if you tow it with the rear wheels on the ground to be sure to disconnect the drive shaft.

I borrowed a nifty tow bar that required the removal of the front bumper and attaching the tow bar to the frame where the bumper was attached. Worked neat. Towed my Datsun from Denver to St. Louis without a hitch (no pun intended) Mark

I got quotes from two companies so far:

Company 1 - $2.50 per mile w/ no other fees

Comapny 2 - $2.00 per mile w/ $40 hookup fee and $40 for first three miles.

The car needs to go 170 miles (about a 3 hour drive). I think a flat bed is the way to go since my tires are flat, dry and cracked.
