Su carbs for a 1600

Post by Ivin »

I was given a set of carbarators and was told that these came off a 1966 Roadster. They look like mine but they have a plate on each one that appears to have a model number on it. The plate says HJB30W. The rear carb also has the nipple for the vac line. Do you think that these are Roadster carbs?

Thanks,

Ivin :D

Ivin,

I do not think they are for the 1600 engine as the number does not match up to the R engine. It should be HJB38W not 30. Hmmm?? Are you sure it is a 30? They may be for a 1500 but the 1500s only had one carb. I will do some more digging around. Any one else?

Sorry for the mishap. I went back and read the plate attached and it does say HJB38W. I also found that id number in my manuel. Sorry for wasting your time. Perhaps it is time to get glasses????

The very early 1500s had single carbs. In the 1964 model year, they were upgraded to dual carbs and horsepower went from 77 to 85. These carbs are different from the 1600 carbs in mounting base and choke linkage. Many of the early 1600 carbs (pre 67.5) had the enameled ID plate that you described. The later carbs had it printed on the aluminum directly.

More roadster esoterica.....
