Wierd electrical short ?
That elusive datsun short again
. Car runs fine when i disconnect the battery to test the alternater. but when I turn on the lights after disconnecting the battery the car just dies has anyone seen this happen ?

Well...not exactly. My alternator was only putting out enough juice to keep the car running, must have been a couple of diodes bad, I was thinking that is was the regulator but I had an extra....same thing, searched the entire wireing...nothing. So I went ahead and did the alternator swap. Every thing works fine now.
Just in case you are wondering the alternator part number from Advance Auto Parts is P7127M3.
As for it dying when you turn on the lights, it doesn't sound like a short. If it was it should blow a fuse or burn a wire. So you would lose something. One other thing, make sure your grounding wire are in place, It wouldn't hurt to add another. It's been said here before electrical problems are a real pain to figure out. Good luck.
