headrest vinyl dyeing
Hi List,
Can someone point me towards a good way to change the color on my vinyl headrests. iI don't want to recover, just paint or dye or whatever works. I know a few people have done this to panels etc.
Thanks as always,
Linda

Linda,
There is vinyl paint available that you should be able to use. As with anything I think preperation is important. Read the can before you apply. Available at many auto parts stores. I have used the spray can successfully several times. Holds up fairly well.

Hi Linda,
I don't know if this will work, but I did it last summer for my car. I went to Lowe's Home store and bought (I believe it was rustoleum paint for vinly patio furniture) vinly spray paint to redo the console around my radio and the visors.. I did it last summer and so far it has held up and still looks nice. I cannot really vouch for it long term, but it was worth a try. If you can find an acceptable color it may want to consider it, here again it may be worth a try.

I used the vinyl paint from NAPA years ago to paint a light brown motorcycle seat black. Came out great. I think alot depends on what color you are changing from and to, and as always, surface prep.

Hi Linda,
If you recall one of our past runs I have the red SRL with the tan interior all done with a rattle cans from Rustoleum. As previously mentioned by another on the list it's patio furniture vinyl spray but I recall the only colors available at the time were black, white and tan. It holds up great and is very quick drying and easy to work with. Again as mentioned earlier prepping is the most important thing.

Hi all
Yeah, I used vinyl paint… painted most of my interior, dash, radio console, center console, trims, soft vinyle and ect…
It work great, no fading, no rub off and hold up very well. By the way I used black glossy, when under the sun it seem like I applied Armor All.
I bought these paints from Wall-mart (auto department) because it about $1.00 cheaper vs auto parts store.

Back in the late 70's, my father did up a van (remember the van craze anyone??) and changed brown seats to blue. I was sure that the crap would be off in a week. Well, I was shocked and amazed that the seats wore out before the color did! The product was Mar-Hyde.
