Speedo calibration

Post by dynaguy »

Life is good! I finally have my Roadster together enough after painting to take it out for a short blast. I have the stock 5spd with a 3.9 rear and 195/60x14" tires. It seems that the speedo reads about 10-15 mph fast at hwy speeds. Anyone know what pinion I might use, and where to get one, to get a closer to correct speedo reading? Pat,

Here is a pretty good explanation with part numbers for different gears that Ross Mullen let me republish from the main website.

Also, you can do a search of the main website here--

----------but asking questions here is fine!

Sounds like you are really close to finishing her up.

Hey Pat,

I have a 32703-78104 20 tooth red gear that I'll sell you for $10. I think it was more $$....too long ago now. I see on the link that Steve provided that you might need a sleeve for it to fit right in the 5 speed. I bought it from our Nissan dealer here to correct my speedo with the 3.90, 185-65-14 tires. I figured it was out by 10 mph. With the 3.70 rear in now that I got from you (thank you) and the stock blue 5 sp speedo gear (I think I counted it at 18 teeth) mine is now off by only 5 mph which I am attributing to tire diameter. I have a really cool Excel program that you type in the tire size and it gives you the overall heigth, speed in gears, etc. Your 195-60-14's are actually shorter than my 185-65-14's according to it. 23.21 vs 23.47.

Anyways, if you need the gear let me know...

Scott
