Front Shock Replacement

Post by nking79 »

Has anyone tried any of the shocks that are mentioned in the tech section? (A lot of cars use the same front shocks: Chrysler: 1980-83 Cordoba, 1982 New Yorker, 1982-89 Imperial, New Yorker, Fifth Avenue, 1977-81 LeBaron, Dodge: 1976-80 Aspen, 1977-89 Diplomat, 1977-88 Mirada, Nissan: 1962-70; 1600/2000 Roadsters, Plymouth: 1982-89 Gran Fury, 1976-80 Volare).

I'm not familiar with the differences between the cheaper shocks and the more pricey ones. What differences would I notice when going with a more expensive shock?

Just go with the GR2's from Summit Racing or one of the vendors. They are inexspensive, fit well and provide a fairly comfortable ride.

They might be. I don't know for sure. You could find a used set, send them back to Koni for a rebuild and have a new set however.

Yes Koni's are still available I just got my set in!! If you are looking for a set (front & back) you are looking at about $229 plus shipping & tax depending where you live!!

Ballpark, what does it cost to get them rebuilt? I have a set on my parts car. I don't know what shape they are in other than old and surface rusty. The piston rod looks clean. I'm running the White KYB Gas-Adjust (that don't adjust). I do like the nice stiff kidney pounding ride though. :D

I put a set of GR2's on my 99 dodge Ram, knocks the fillings out of your teeth. I might actually change back to stock Mopars.
My 66 came with a set of GR2's in a box. The fronts feel very stiff on comperssion, by hand. Might have been sitting around a while.

I finally got the Carrera's installed (just before the Iron Bottom). What a difference! The Koni would most likely be the same. One of my Gas-A-Justs had failed completely. Not that I blame it, the way I drive!
