Best seat swap in roadster?

Post by GoldHawg »

I've seen a few pics of cars w/Miata seats installed. How easy is the swap over? Any other good seats that others have tried? Love opinions.

thx!

RE:Miata Seats

Post by S Allen »

Miata seats are pretty much a direct bolt in after drilling new mounting holes and adding some reinforcing to the pan bottom. That is from a short person's perspective though. I like them--much more comfortable than stock and they look pretty darned good as well. Speakers or pockets to put speakers in the headrests are a nice plus as well. I tried some Corbeau's(not Clubman's) but even I looked like Scooby Doo with my head sticking slightly above the windshield. Those are now in my Z now. Some have used Z seats but I have no personal experience with those in a roadster.

Mark Dent's car has some seats that are nice and have a period look to them. I believe that they are Corbeau Clubman seats, but I could be wrong.

I picked up a set of the Corbeau classics seats too, now I just have to put them in something. It would not be hard to adapt them to the Rodster rails, I got a set of Corbeau rails with them too, so will see which fits.

I really wanted Miata seats with the speakers, but these lok more correct for the age of the car.

I found a set of the "racing buckets" that are all over Ebay, these were the APC brand. I got them dirt cheap, $60.00 for the pair. Ifigured I'd try them. They felt great, looked WAY to big and the shoulder bolsters are so wide there wasn't enough room to roll up the window. They would be OK in a track car. Sold them to my neighbor for her Jeep.

20/20 hindsight, realized I should have put them in my work truck.

It takes some getting used to climbing in and out of them, but once you are in, you are wearing them. I have driven 7+ hours one way in the car, and it does not hurt my back. I am 6'1" and they are in the 67 (low windshield)
Mark,

Do you have pics of these in your car?

I'm 6 foot 2, but only a 30 inch waist. Gotta wear the seatbelt just so I don't rattle around the interior!!

Yours doesn't have headrests? Funny thing, one of my seats has a raised thigh "bump" at the front of the seat cushion, the other is flat. Otherwise identical.
