I have a question to ask about the early pre-pollution "R" engines. My late model R engines have a metal pointers on the front of the timing cover and it lines up with the ridge built into the cover.
On the pre-pollution engines that have the flatter crank pulley is there supposed to be a metal tab like on the late model engines, but shorter or do you just use the ridge on the cover? The ridge on the cover should work but it seams like the pointer should be closer to the crank pulley marks...thanks ahead of time... Bill

RE:Timing Cover Mark
Bill,
The timing mark on the early R timing cover is the narrow protruded ridge. There are no metal pointed tabs.
