Hi. Just picked up a '65 spl310. It's pretty rough, but the price was right. It's got a later R16 in it with very bad compression. PO said that it blew a head gasket before he got it, due to a radiator leak. Also said he replaced the gasket. When I asked him if he had the head checked for cracks and warpage, he said, 'huh'? So, that's another story. When I got the head off, I noticed the #1 piston has +050 on it, while the rest of them have +020. I mic'd the cylinders, and they all measure the same, at least at the top. Havn't figured that one out.
Now for some pics!

All in all it's in pretty workable shape. No bad rust on the body and 2 small rust holes. One on passenger floorpan, other in the trunk. and the only bondo's plugging up the trim holes. Steering feels tight and glass is good.
I'd like to see some speculation on how much I got it for...I'll let you know if you're close enough. Later

$600?

It looks a little rough but nothing a little TLC cant fix. Just get a door, Hey I know someone who has one that is willing to part with it. Also What is your plan? Overhaul the engine and keep it stock? Doesnt look like a bad project car! Congrats on the find!

Good find. I hope you enjoy the resto. I know you'll enjoy the ride when it is time. Where are you located? Any datsun buddies local? It helps when you get stuck or just need someone that understands why this thing is that important.

The holes in the head are peens which distort the metal in the head in order to clamp the valve seat. If you become paranoid like I did because I had one slip and and jam the valve open, don't whack them again "for good measure" because you will need to have the seats reground to "true" them! Don't ask me how I know!

I'm in Sacramento, CA, dickson. Pretty close on the price there, 1600. $500. Got a couple of boxes of parts with it, too... Seems like that's the way they come. I plan on getting the head back in shape, and slapping it back together for another compression test. I'm pretty sure the head's warped, or there were some issues with the gasket. Gotta remember who's garage I left my straight edge in. The cylinders dont' look very worn, no ridge on the cylinders. That +.050 piston is throwing me, though. The rest are +.020, and the cylinder's not .030 bigger than the rest. Maybe they used an oversized piston for a smaller engine. I'm not acquainted with any datsun folks in this area, but I understand that Mr. Kerr is close by, so I plan to get in touch with him in the near future. Later, folks

could be someone at the piston company stamped in the wrong number, but matched the set properly...

Does the piston say .50 on it? Or is it a diamond with a 5 in it? The diamonds are stock and and the 2's measure 79.985-79.976mm and the 5's measure 80.015-80.006mm according to the nissan manual.

I think....
