hey Guys,
Just got back from a weekend of racing at Motorsports ranch a 1.7 mile road course. Things went really well, let me tell you a 5.13 rearend will allow you to squirt out of the corners like you are shot out of a gun.
Race report as follows:
Saturday qualified fourth behind a trio of really fast midgets qualifying time was a 1:31.7. Saturdays race put me forth on the grid Kurt Gauthier was P1 but lost his starter while the guys were trying to push start him one of them hit the master elec switch(bummer oh well easy way to pick up a position) so I started 3rd.
Came around for the checkered flag, after a stern warning in the drivers meeting about jumping the start my friend on pole Stacy Rodgers was taking no chances we took the green flag in 1st gear about 5500 rpm, well that was perfect for me took it up to 7200 rpms and hit 2nd and was gone took the lead and held it for the next 4 laps while running around a spun car I took the high way and my friend jay in his midget took the low road and managed to hold me off to take first place.
Saturday pm started inP2 Jay and I had a much faster pace for the start we came through big bend side by side you couldn't have slipped a piece of paper between us, I knew that to win I was going to have to get ahead of him going into the first corner. Well I made my mind up that I wasn't hitting the brakes til he did if that meant running straight of the track in turn one ...so be it! Lucky for me he hit the brakes and I did right after him I didn't even know how far I drove into the corner but it was farther than I had anytime before. Had a great battle over the next 10 laps with jay until he went too wide in the big bend turn hooked the right side wheels and went off roading. Lead wire to wire holding of a late charge by Herb Hilton in his midget took a .058 margin of victory.
Sunday took the first start in p1 lead the first 4 laps until I let it get away from me in the rattlesnake spun so bad I dropped back to 22 position after serving a stop and go penalty for the spin worked my way up to 14th.
Ok now comes the good part a great friend and really good driver Richard Schley was running a 510 that he rents from anther friend of mine, unfortunately it lost a bearing during the second race Saturday, poor guy was looking like he had lost his best friend so I thought I would share my ride with him, well the race starts and by the 2nd lap Schley has gone from 14th to 4th!!!!! He ended up place third. Made me feel pretty good about sharing with a friend and made the weekend really complete so now all I have to do is get ready for mid-ohio later on this summer.
