Sheet Metal--what gauge?

Post by Conner »

What guage sheet steel have people used when making patch panels and repairs to the roadster? 20, 19, 18?

I used 18 to fab rear fenders. It was the thinnest stuff the metal place had and the guy asked if I was using them on my "race" car. He must sell a lot to them. IIRC, they were about $20 for a 4X8 sheet.

Thanks. Nineteen gauge is what a lot of metal-shaping folks use for auto sheet metal, but it isn't that commonly available. I wasn't sure if maybe that old Japanese sheetmetal was even thinner than that. I think I'll probably take a piece to my local steel guy and see what he suggests.
