Sheet metal split on door

Post by Conner »

My driver's door has what looks like either a cut or a split next to where the side mirror was located. Is this common and, if so, what causes it?

I've seen it quite a bit.

I think it comes from the vent windows. If anything pulls or pushes on the window it creates stress on the door at that point.

Yeah, I had the same thing on my door. Not as bad as that horizontal tear though. I had a body shop reweld it for me ($30), since I'm not set up for sheetmetal. Or at least I wasn't, until I just ordered a new mig welder a few hours ago :D

I bought the Hobart 500495 Hnandler 125 MIG. I hope this will be a good upgrade from the Lincoln 225 AC/DC Stick Welder.

I mainly picked this one because it is portable and can run on house current. And if I find a cheap argon tank somewhere, it'll be true MIG and even some TiG, if I need it.

Sounds similar to mine. I'd suggest not buying a bottle but renting one with the gas from Tractor Supply or similar vendor. The regulator that came with my welder blew out the first time I turned on the gas so I replaced it with a heavy-duty one.
