How Many miles does it really have on it?

Does the first digit of the odometer offset on a 311 like the older american cars. It was always an easy way to tell if it's been turned over.
How about the valves? With oil changes every 3000 will they last 80,000. Oh ..and how miles is that timing chain good for? If my odometer say's 84,000 how can I tell if it's 184000 or even 284,000? Does that clutch go every 75,000?
Thought it might be helpful to compare mileage Vs. wear. I am going to replace a clutch with the odometer at 84,000. Wondering if I can tell if the pressure plates original?

With timing chains, I just picked up an original owner car and from the looks of the engine, he just drove it until it stopped (Broken timing chain). It has 154,000 miles on it and it looks like the timing chain and the tensioner were original. Actually, it looks like the tensioner wore down to the metal causing a chain failure.

The intake manifold gasket, head gasket, intakes (nice clean silver metal), valve train, exhaust manifold, all look great. I plan on just throwing it all back together as is- except for a lot of degreasing!
