Can a roadster be towed safely by my 1999 Honda minivan posted towing capacity of 3500lbs? I need to take it from the bay area to Oaxaca Mexico 3000+/- miles

Michael,
NOOOOOO! Don't do it while alvin is right about the weight. I know those roads they will make your mini van work its guts out. When we did it we specifically used a non turboed diesel I truly think an turbo diesel would be perfect or a small block chevy would be great.
I am not sure how many miles your mini van has on it but believe me when I say its a brutal tow.

The van will be toast on mexican roads! It would be OK for just border line stuff but you are going deep south so it will be harsh! Especially while towing a roadster!
thanks for the replies

My other option is to drive the roadster to Oaxaca and race it to Texas then drive it back to San Francisco--(with van following) if I bend it, then rent a U-haul in Texas...My concern is that I'll be toast after a trip like that. SF/Oaxaca/2000miles racing to Texas/1800miles to SF/red-eye to Boston

So you are running the Carrera? We are too! What prep have you done to the car? We are seam welding everything right now and prepping the cage installation.
Let me know, see you down there.
BTW: Find something other than the Honda to tow it with. The rear suspension on that van is going to sag out bad even with that meager tongue load.
