Connecting Rod Cap Orientation

are they 'sided'? I noticed on some of mine the Nissan logo is facing the cam and some the opposite. The service manual doesn't mention it.

The rods have oil squirter holes in them and must be installed in their correct position, which also means they need to be correctly installed onto the piston. I BELIEVE this will determine which way the cap goes on as I recall the bearing shells have tangs that fit into slots on the rod. I went through this a while ago when building my engine that has non-stock pistons. As I recall the stock pistons may not care given their uniformity but mine have a crown and valve cut outs. I THINK the rod has the oil hole facing forward, but I'll have to check my posts...

The Oil hole faces the cam/jackshaft. I believe that puts the hole and stamped rod # facing forward/front of the engine.

Greg is correct on the placement of the oil hole:

Stock pistons have the letter "F" indicating front of the engine stamped into the crown and also cast below the ring lands (shown in the top photo).

this is the one cap that's the odd one out. The nissan logo is on the opposite side of the stamped # compared to the other 3 cylinders. I guess as long as the piston # stamps line up its ok lol. it's run for thousands of miles like this.

all the pistons/rods are oriented correctly.
