Does anyone have a recommended speedometer repair shop in south central USA? I'm in Louisiana. Just made 10,500 miles on what was sold as new old stock speedometer for 1968 1600 and it began whining like a siren at about 20 MPH, it wrapped to 120, back to 0, and soon stopped working before I could get back to the garage. It looked very new when I installed it November 30, 2018.

Have you checked the integrity of the speedometer cable?

Go online and look for an authorized Stewart Warner, VDO or Autometer service and repair shops. They should be able to help you, or contact Global Tech Instrument in Huntington Beach, CA they can also repair the speedometer.

Speedo repair? Aren't you risking giving new life to a "dead horse," Dave?

There is always time to beat it some more. Never give up until you’re sure you have succeeded.

Drove it today and watched the cable through the hole in the dash and the cable was not spinning. Thanks for the cable check advice and directions on repair shops. I'll check the transmission end of the cable next.

Boom! But could also be a stripped pinion.

I had a similar issue. P.O. had replaced the speedo cable. I hooked a drill to the tranny end of the cable to confirm the operation of the speedo. Only logical conclusion was the pinion gear.
