Windshield Replacement Mystery

Roadster Brain Trust - I have a 1970 1600. Trying to replace the windshield. My local glass shop sourced a windshield from Mygrant. Part #FW214. Glass arrived and the tech just eyeballing thought it looked too small. Measured the glass and it was 1-2 inches short both width and length. I called another glass shop and they had a windshield in stock, same part number, that measured from top right corner to top left corner 39 3/4", middle left to middle right 43", and bottom left to bottom right 45 3/4". Middle top to middle bottom 17 5/8". I measured my current windshield and came up with top right corner to top left corner 41 1/2" and bottom left to bottom right 49. Middle top to middle bottom 18". Even allowing for slight differences in measuring, the differences are significant.

What say the Brain Trust? Is there a bunch of mislabeled Datsun Roadster replacement windshields floating around out there? Did a previous owner weld on an entirely different window frame? Maybe a 510 or 520 window?

The pre 68 windshields are apx. 2” shorter than the later cars. I don’t know about the width, but wouldn’t be surprised since the early cars had a removable windshield frame. I’m sure someone here with more experience with the early cars can give more conclusive information.

Thanks. I understand the low and high windshields. My 70 Roadster is stock with the high windshield, but the replacements I'm finding are smaller both width and height even though they are designated as replacements for the 1970 model.

Interesting thread.

My spare windshield removed from a '69 measures closer to those of the replacement you sourced:

top L to top R -- 39 1/2"

bottom L to bottom R -- 45 1/2"

top to bottom measured at center -- 17 3/4"

Do you have the replacement weatherstrip?

https://datsunparts.com/collections/wea ... atherstrip

Checking the fit in your windshield frame and then taking the weatherstrip with you to your local supplier should make locating the correct screen easier.

Hope this helps --

Jon

Thanks Jon. Yes, I have a new weatherstrip. I just took my Roadster back to the glass shop. They are going to go for it. Worst case, they will reinstall my old glass with a new gasket.
