Re: 1964 1500 Battery size
Could be a group 53 battery, commonly referred to as a "corvair" battery, since chevy used them in 60-64 corvairs ,also used in 65-67 1600 until 67 1/2 when they went w/ group 24 batteries. They are still available, would have to get measurements etc to check the fit. You could maybe run a group 51r battery (smaller), and I think the same specs.(used on hondas)?

Re: 1964 1500 Battery size
I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be a group 53 battery, that was only for the 66/67 spl’s and probably the late 65 cars. If I was trying to find a battery that fits under the rear deck or parcel shelf I would measure the size of the battery box and then see if I could find a battery size chart. You would need to have enough room to get it in and short enough to have the top clear the posts.

I would want to include some pull straps for easy future maintenance.

I use a 51R, as well. It is not as long as the original factory but works just fine.

Re: 1964 1500 Battery size
Group 53 was the original size - reputed to be obsolete. Group 51R is a readily available substitute that works just fine.

Re: 1964 1500 Battery size
For a 1964 1500 Roadster, the correct battery size is typically a Group 26 or Group 26R battery, which fits well under the rear seat. These batteries are compact enough to fit in the designated space while providing sufficient power for the vehicle's electrical needs. Make sure to choose a battery with at least 500 cold cranking amps (CCA) to ensure reliable starting performance, especially if you drive in colder climates.
Additionally, when replacing the battery, check the battery tray and terminals for any signs of corrosion or wear. Clean them thoroughly and apply a protective terminal grease to prevent future corrosion. Also, consider installing a battery maintainer if your roadster sits for extended periods; this will help maintain the battery's charge and prolong its lifespan.
