Caliper line rubs

I’m redoing a 1969 2000 and having trouble with the driver’s side front brake. The caliper to caliper line is so close to the inner rim of the tire that I’ve had to really struggle to create even a mm of space. If it isn’t perfect the tire rubs and erodes the line, cracks it open and a leak appears. I’m thinking of getting some flexible line like Cu-Ni and bending it around the back side of the caliper. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Everything is ok on the right side.

Dster, If you have the budget go to one of the vendors and get a new line. Datsun Resto Products, SinCity, Datsun Parts all have them.
If you're on a tighter budget I used Allstar Performance pre-made lines. Correct flares & fittings come in variety of lengths. They have steel, copper/zinc and stainless. Use a string to mock-up the one you need, I believe it is 16". They come straight (the copper looking lines in the photo - before and after). Bending requires an inexpensive hand-tool. Dave

Thanks Dave. I did get a new one from Dean at Datsunparts. It fit great but I immediately heard rubbing and when I checked, the new tube had been shaved in two places by rubbing on the inside of the wheel. I managed to maneuver it enough so it doesn’t rub now, but the gap between the tubing and the wheel is only 1-2 mm! This makes me nervous! I’m looking for a way to route this line differently. I suppose I could get thin wheel spacers, but I’m not very excited about that. Another idea is that maybe the tire itself is a little bent.. no uneven wear tho

What wheel are you running? Can they be relieved some to make some room? Why is it ok on one side and not the other? If you have already cut or damaged two lines this says it needs a very clear and safe solution, eh?!

Be safe!

I had exactly the same issue- use Cu-Ni lines to find the path with the most space for the line. Now they don’t run on either side but the clearance is only about 1 mm. I just bought a pair of 3mm wheel spacers for extra clearance and brake safety.
