Fuel Tank dimensions

Post by SMMiller »

Hello. I am looking for information about the physical dimensions of a 1969 2000 Roadster fuel tank. I have a 280Z project that is in need of a small original looking fuel tank. This car has been modified by the prior owner. The California BAR ref wants me to install a "production" tank. I think I can use the one from a Roadster. Moparpro (ebay) sells one (see attachment) but I am not getting much help with measurements. So two questions for the group that I would really appreciate some help with.
First. I need basic measurements of the tank before I order one. Width (side to side), depth (back to front), thickness (vertical) and then the hard part. There appears to be a tapered section in the back that tucks under the valence. I would like to understand that edge's geometry because it is critical to my fit. I think a measurement of the top depth vs the bottom depth. But if anyone has a sketch or a mechanical drawing I would be so grateful.

Second. If anyone knows a better place to buy the tank I would love to hear about it. The one online is $700. ouch.

I would really apricate your help. I really do love the Roadster and have had 3 in my life over the years through friends. I would love to pick one up after this 1977 280Z is finished. If anyone likes those cars too, let me know and I will share some information. But basically it has been out of the DMV system for 30 years and I am trying to get it back to life. But the prior owner did an engine change and California is not an easy place to do that.
Take care

I highly doubt that it would fit and it is a small tank for your Z.

Yeah the electric fuel pump & sender fitting would be problematic
Yeah that looks identical to my 86 z31
Very tough tank 1/8" steel it seems maybe a bit thicker

Thank you for the feedback.
Steve those dimensions will help. Would it be ok to reach out to you if I have some follow up questions?
Hi Daryl. Yes that would be the correct tank if this car was stock. The person that started this dropped in a V8 with dual exhaust. Then they relocated the fuel filler to the rear under the license plate. Then they created a 20 gal tank. It is very high quality, but not good for the inspection. I need something that can be modified to fit in its place that looks production for the era. It is small, but I can swap back to the other tank after the inspection. Not ideal but at this point I have put so much time (years) into this that I am not thinking rationally. :0.

They're going to notice the gas tank ,but not the V8 in a datsun ?
And the evap ties into the check engine lite ,which is part of a inspection
