Interior Electrical Connectors

Post by WHFred »

I'm posting this as it might help others looking to replace electrical connectors under the dash.

My '69 SRL311 came with a some broken connectors. Two were completely disintegrated. I happened to see on Amazon this set for sale for just $9.99:

Turns out that these connectors are very close replacements for stock. In fact, if only one side is broken then you can fix just that side and pair with the original other side. Even better - on the male side connector the stock make pins push right into the new connectors so you don't even need to cut those off and replace them. Just use a very small screwdriver to push out the tab that keeps the pin from backing out so that they click into place. The female slides are a bit different from stock so if you do need to replace that side of the connection you'll need to cut a crimp on new ends.

Good to know. Vintage Connections (https://www.vintageconnections.com) in Oregon supplied all the connectors I needed, as well as tooling.

Vintage Connections has the correct plugs. The locking ones have a slightly different terminal that will not work in the non-locking plug.

+1 on the Vintage Connections. I bought one of their kits when I worked on my high windshield radio console. A few of the housings had dried up and fell apart. Was able to just replace the housings; the connection tabs fit right in without issue. Need to get to the connector housing(s) for the windshield wiper motor. That one is toast and is causing the connectors to short out and blow the fuse.

Here's a few pics of the old dried out housings replaced with new Vintage housings (in no specific order).
