$0.02 Two Second Emergency Trunk Release

I recently read through some posts on the site about locks breaking and accidentally leaving keys in the trunk and closing it. Some folks drilled holes, made special wire tools and in some cases took days to solve. It made me nervous about having it happen to me, so I opened it up and looked at how the key interacted with the release mechanism.

I just took a zip tie and fastened it to the release arm, pulled tight on itself and pointed the excess cable (basically the whole thing) and routed it straight down through the existing hole for the fuel tank vent. The vent tube that I have fits pretty snug in the hole so the zip tie stays put and protrudes out the bottom about 2 inches.

Just a slight tug on the zip tie from underneath releases the trunk. Always there when you need it and inconspicuous to the unknowing eye!

I’d bet 50% of the Roadsters you see have a wire attached. Go to Solvang, no one uses a key to open the trunk

I don't have a key that fits the boot lock so it is the wire tug for me as well

There was a rubber boot with a drain hose attached to the trunk lock cylinder on approximately mid 1968 and up cars that dispursed any water or moisture that got in there. that is what that hole with the grommet was originally used for.

Although my trunk keys work for both roadsters, the 69 came with the wire mod already done and I will be adding this to the 67.5 as the trunk key is very worn and every time I use it I inhale and gently turn the key until it clicks and the trunk lid pops and then exhale

Thinking never store anything of value in the trunks. There might be a couple smart thief's around that will read about the trip wire. Though a tire iron will do the dirty deed just as well.

I added the hole and pull cabke to my 1966 SPL311-00054. I will sleep better now!
