1970 1600 Tire size question

Post by sevenmilebridge »

I finally have the engine back in and rebuilt but the tires that are on it are dry rotted. What size tire would be the best for this car? The size that was on it is 165 sr 14 .

Same as Geoff on my refurbished stock steelies after powder coating - 185/70R14 - except the spare, which is 165/65R14. A smidge smaller diameter (22.4" vs 24.2") to clear the mounting screws of the license plate light.

There are a few options for the stock wheels, both early (4") and late (4.5") wheel widths.
You can also choose blackwall or whitewall
It comes down to your preference.

185/70/14 is very popular. I run these on Sora (Hankook Mileage Plus):

175/75/14 Coker Travelstars

175/70/14

Pirelli Cinturatos 165HR14 (John Baker's)

On a stock wheel:

Finally, there are Bias-Ply tires 165HR14 for show/period style:

Let us know what you find!
