Oil pan and carburetors

Post by SOUPY »

I scored this R16 engine with a 4k plus serial number with a cast iron cylinder head and an aluminum oil pan that looks like it doesn't belong on a Datsun! Same with the carburetors that sit at angle and the float bowls are level and the intake manifold is angled up also! So is something that is possibly off an early 1500? Too bad the oil pan wasn't of the 8 quart variety!

Thanks Dave! So I assume it would be a 5 main crank? Guess I need to find someone with a 411 that needs parts! Always great to hear back from respected vendors!

Better check the engine # again, with an iron head it is very likely a 3 main.....and 411's were made until '67 which is when, midyear(?) Nissan switched to the 5 main.....

Engine #R47307. Showing my lack of knowledge here, but I just thought all R engines above 4k were 5 mains. Maybe PO put an iron head on as a replacement? Thought the aluminum oil pan is pretty cool 😎! Thanks
